Blue – is it the new black?

March 7th, 2010

Spring is here! It’s time to banish the black and get some colour in your life. From rich, deep navy to pretty duck egg shades, blue is flattering for all skin tones – you’ll see it bursting onto the high street just in time for summer.

From flowing maxi dresses in shades of azure and cerulean, to beautifully tailored suits in masculine midnight, blue is most definitely the colour for spring/summer 2010. Start with the basics and invest in the perfect pair of jeans. Skinny’s are still at the top of the list, closely followed by the more unforgiving jeggings. Go for both in this seasons faded look, a subtle pale, washed blue, with just a small nod to the 80’s.

T-shirts are sporting the blue make-over too; try a different shape for summer and turn up the heat with a tube top – perfect for showing off toned shoulders and arms. Or cover up with a three-quarter sleeve, ideal for hiding the upper arms. Go stripy for a nautical look, a key trend for this year. Vertical stripes are just brilliant for a slimming effect – try a thin stripe for a sultry Parisian look, Ooh la la!

Skirts are a key item for summer with loads of different shapes to choose from. Denim is on trend with the tulip shape a popular choice – wear with heels for a sophisticated look. If you dare, go ultra short. Team with Havaianas for a cool surfer chic vibe.

Accessories are blue all over with chunky bangles and beads just waiting to spruce up that spring outfit. Bags come in all shapes and sizes – try a funky electric blue to update your work wardrobe, matching shoes even better!

Try blue this season – you’ll be amazed at how flattering it is!
