Guy’s preppy summer fashion

Now we are into the thick of it lets have a look at a big trend that is heading your way this summer, the American trend is very popular at the moment but it has spawned a new summer style, the preppy look. It is quite a classic look that pops up every now and then but has not really taken off however this year riding on the back of American it is really coming into its own in men’s clothing.

Taking its props from the East coast American style of dress that was popular amongst men in the 1980′s, it adds in a little ‘Ivy league’ style of dressing, think wealthier and more educated guys who attended Harvard and Yale with their single breasted suits. This style has recently seen a revival thanks mainly to the fashion conscious TV show Gossip Girl which follows the lives of the rich spoilt East Coast kids who happened to fall into this retro look.

Fear not though, you don’t have to have mummy and daddies bank balance to play with to get this look or even be that posh, if you add key clothing from this trend you should be able to pull off this look effectively. Look for smart tailored trousers such as chino’s, classic shorts, worn with tailored blazers, baseball jackets and stylish boat shoes.

Men’s fashion essential – The suit

Any self respecting stylish man will have at least one suit in his wardrobe, if not many especially if you have to wear one every day for work, but even if you don’t have a suit for your uniform it’s an essential piece of designer menswear that you need. Suits are often forgotten about unless worn on a daily basis, you find you probably will wear one more than you think from functions and parties to weddings, christenings and funerals.

There are many possibilities with suits, more than most people think, with colour, style and fit meaning you can mix and match a lot especially for office wear. When it comes to formal events such as weddings and funerals, keeping it simple is best either black or navy with a crisp white shirt and black tie never fails and never ever goes out of style.

You also need to make sure your suit fits properly, your suit should hug your shoulders, be comfortable across the chest so it’s not baggy but not tight so you can breathe properly, you need to make sure your sleeves are the correct length too, showing ¾ to an inch of your shirt cuff and finally appropriate trouser length that skims your shoes.

If your suit fits properly and the style suits you, you will find that you will be much more comfortable, especially if you don’t often wear a suit.

Men’s key trend – Grey

Grey featured heavily in the fashion collections for spring/summer 2010 for men with the likes of Prada leading the way in designer clothes using grey and charcoal, in many textures and fabrics. Currently there are many ways to wear this colour either for casual or smart, work wear style clothing will also be big and mixing in the grey colours will keep you spot on.

As the weather is still chilly out why not go for a great transeasonal knit like the one below and wear with jeans and heavy boots and then when the weather finally gets milder you can then go for a smart button up shirt.

Your chance to own some of Elton John’s wardrobe.

Music legend Elton John’s flamboyant wardrobe is currently on sale at the Flower Cellars in London’s Covent Garden, for their fifth Out The Closet pop-up shop so now you can have your chance to own a piece of his eccentric sense of style, all in the name of charity. The sale will see the largest collection of clothing and accessories belonging to the singing star and his partner David Furnish.

The prices range from £10 to £2,000 and include pieces by Versace, Christian Dior, Prada, Alexander McQueen, D&G and Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as sunglasses, luggage and belts. Shoppers will also be able to buy some of the costumes that he has used over the course of his musical career, like pairs of the singer’s sky-high platform shoes and the over-sized spectacles.

The last time Elton John and his partner held such a sale was back in 2002 in London and on that occasion they raised £400,000 after selling 15,000 items.
Elton John said, “We always get a fantastic response from the public with these sales, I think the idea that the items we all buy and enjoy can help someone in dire need, particularly at this time of year, really strikes a chord.”

David Furnish added, “The new stock in Out The Closet represents the largest clearout that we have ever had, and it’s exciting to think that our clothes will draw a whole new demographic into our shop. For the first time we have sunglasses in-store and other accessories that will make great Christmas gifts.”

The proceeds of the sale will go to his AID’s Charity, the Elton John Aids Foundation.

The sale which is currently running and restocked everyday will end on the 19th December with a clearance sale.

Why Hoodies will always be in fashion

For most men comfortable yet durable clothing is a must; however men of today also want up to date trendy clothing too. If you are one of those men, hoodies are still a great fashion item, despite the negative cultural connotations. Hoodies have always appealed to the masses, especially where comfort and durability are concerned, but now hoodies are all those things plus fashionable to boot. Hoodies can be worn by all generations and go with most styles of trousers or shorts. They’ve been around for a long time and they are not new to the fashion world by any means, but the hoodies of yesterday are nothing like the new, fresh new lines of men-inspired lines of the present day

Men can never have too many hoodies in their wardrobe and this is the perfect excuse to buy many styles and colors. With winter on its way, now is the ideal time to wear them to keep warm while still looking fashionable. Specific fashion and music styles have brought the hoodie back into prominent collections by designers as of late and hoodies are finding it easy to turn up in every man’s wardrobe across the world. Before hoodies reached mainstream fashion, plenty of individuals that coveted the surfing and skateboarding scene also coveted their hoodies, bringing the convenient clothing items into the world of high fashion and designers labels. Hoodies have been made affordable and functional, as well as durable and fashionable. Hoodies are the epitome of laid-back, relaxed California living and this is what makes them so appealing.
