Choosing a Dress for a First Date

February 22nd, 2012

Dressing to impress is essential on a first date. The right dress to wear will depend on where the date is going to take place. A woman should do her best to find out where the date will be and what the activity is in advance so that she can plan accordingly.

Casual First Date

A date that involves an activity such as going to the cinema or enjoying a picnic in the park calls for a dress that is equally casual and comfortable. A dress can still look fantastic and be comfortable. The ideal dress for a casual date will have a full skirt, so that the woman can relax and move about freely. It should fall to the knee or just above the knee, so that it does not look too revealing or too formal. A dress in a pattern such a polka dots or flowers will look wonderful on a date.

Club Date

A date at a club calls for considerably different dress styles. A woman should look for a dress that is more form-fitting, such as a jersey knit dress with a pencil skirt or a bandeau dress. Wearing a dress with sequins or other metallic details from Lipsy clothing is perfect for a club date. The one-shoulder neckline is made for this kind of date as well, as are dresses with asymmetrical hems or sleeves. The club date is the time to break out the dress that has a slightly risqué cut-out detail at the waist or back.

Formal Date

If the date is going to take place at a high end restaurant, the woman should dress accordingly. She does not need to wear a long dress, but it should be made of a fancy fabric, such as silk or satin. When in doubt, it is usually best to wear black dresses to a fancy restaurant or other formal event.
