Five Men’s Autumn Fashion Must-haves

October 23rd, 2011

With the reemergence of 40’s glamour, heavy tailoring and a more serious sophisticated tone, Autumn 2011 offers many fresh new takes on season staples that will leave men across the globe wondering what they will be wearing once cooler weather takes hold.  To keep up with the shift in style, the stylish man need only add the following five fashion pieces to keep themselves in fashion without buying a completely new wardrobe.

The Turtleneck – This old school cool weather piece typically conjures images of cheesy family photos and matching Christmas sweaters.  Surprisingly, the turtleneck has now become the coolest kid in school thanks to lighter weight fabrics and bright colour palettes courtesy of Gucci, Calvin Klein, Voi and Hermes Try wearing with a checked shirt for a more casual look or with a cardigan for extra warmth.

The Double Breasted Suit or Coat – With a neutral palette and a slimmer fit, double breasted suit jackets and coats have brought back the power suit in a big way.  Gone are the bulky looks of the eighties.  The new take on double breasted suits is streamlined and high on style.

The Military Look – Every few years, designers like Salvatore Ferragamo offer a new take on this look.  Brass buttons, pea coats and military style trousers bring this persistent style back to the forefront for fall 2011. The darker pallets and rugged look are perfect for any guy who likes a bit of an edge with his look and Firetrap have focused on this style for guys this season.

Unexpected Panelling – Thanks to Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier and Rick Owens, coats and jackets are getting a fresh look with unexpected panels of neoprene, nylon, and leather.

The Slip-On Shoe – Shoe designers such as Gucci are giving men an easy going option for footwear with loafers in a wide array of colours and a variety of materials.
